TENDING THE ROOTS OF HOPE:
A JOURNEY INTO THE IMAGINAL WORLD.
October 1-4, 2022.

"Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness."
—Desmond Tutu

Our 2022 expressive arts retreat is not taking place in Taos this fall, but it is happening live on zoom!. The main difference is that we will have a full-day schedule on the first day in lieu of beginning in the evening.

Easily adapted for this virtual platform, we will be together for the entire retreat making tissue paper collages, sharing our myth and fairy tale stories, viewing and showing our collages, meditating, and dancing. There will be ample time to relax and journal with two-hour lunch breaks and tea/stretch pauses throughout the day.

As we navigate the profound challenges happening in these unsettled times, it’s more important than ever to come together in community to explore the depths of grief we are carrying in addition to the resilience and hope we so desperately need. Despite the circumstances surrounding us today, it’s not only possible, it’s critical to touch in with hope. When hope arises out of impossible situations, it can awaken our courage and support our dreams for the future.

Our gathering this year is going to be very powerful. We will be entering into the imaginal terrain of the Tissue Paper Collage process to explore our rich inner world. The imaginal world has an interiority where we view everything from a more lyrical lens.

Our collage process draws us into the symbolic landscape of images, metaphors and myths. Entry into this terrain comes through writing and sharing our personal life stories as myth or fairy tale; making tissue paper collages in a way that bypasses our busy minds; expressive movement and dance that bring to life something we are pondering; and daily journaling and meditation. These practices help us connect to what lies behind the collage images—the images speak to us about our deepest feelings and yearnings, and can provide a map to new and unknown places.

During the course of our four days together, we will also be building community to strengthen our sense of belonging—to ourselves, to each other and to the cosmos.

The Tissue Paper Collage practices of revelation and discovery give shape to a newfound intimacy with ourselves, and helps us to become more permeable to beauty while aligning with our soul’s highest mission.

With the rise of COVID in New Mexico, and other states, I have decided to do the retreat on zoom. Surprisingly, using the Zoom video platform allows for community intimacy, and the last few years our zoom retreats have been wildly successful.
